The Rural Media Company is a media education agency working within both formal and informal education settings. The agency also has production department producing learning materials for young people and training. Our work with marginalised young people in rural areas and on issues of equal opportunity and diversity is nationallly regarded. We use the full spectrum of media forms, and place emphasis on developing innovative practice models, the results of which are disseminated through TV, print and electronic publishing, festival and conferences, and partnership working. - Date

The Rural Media Company's main purpose is practical media education. Our production activities support this main company function. - Definition
of media education :
"Kids need to know not only how to produce media, but how to analyze it, and there is there is no better way to understand it than to make it. That kind of learning sticks with you much more. If you have to produce a media project that communicates your ideas, in a way you are becoming a teacher. The student becomes a teacher as well as a producer, and that stays with them." activities
1.YOU-TV is an annual conference for teachers and youthworkers in the W Midlands region. It platforms leading media ed practitioners and agencies together with providing hands-on activities using latest technology and techniques.
2. MEDIANET is a scheme which brings together an effective forum of rural education authority officers and media specialists to develop and support a programme of demonstration media projects in mainstream and special schools, and to evaluate and disseminate good practice.
3. Youth Times is a 5-year local democracy and journalism project which combines production by young people of an on-line youth magazine with a placement scheme providing media graduates with acredited youthwork and community media training.
